History – In the late 1990’s Mermet UK was formed as a joint venture between Mr. Dick de Leeuw and Mermet SAS of Veyrins, France. Its objective, to promote and distribute the glass fibre based performance fabrics woven in France throughout the UK and Ireland. This being achieved with the introduction of stocks of fabric into the UK, to be available on a next day cut length service.
These services allied to the quality and range of the fabrics and De Leeuw Ltd’s technical expertise has seen the Mermet name become established within the UK specifying communities and blind manufacturing trade.
ES-SO – Mr. De Leeuw’s contacts within the broader European sphere of shading activities saw him being approached to join the membership of the European Solar Shading Organisation at a time when there was no apparent appetite within the UK trade for International co-operation (this situation happily no longer the case given the BBSA’s active involvement with ES-SO).
BBSA – The advanced technical properties of the Mermet fabrics, the development of agreed European standards and test procedures all justify involvement with the British Blinds & Shutters Association. Close involvement with the work of the Technical Committee continues. Presence at the last five ‘Showcase exhibitions’ and constant presence in the associations own periodical ‘Openings’ demonstrating an ongoing commitment to the support of the British trade and its members.
European Standards, CIBSE, BRE, IMO, BS476 Pt 6 Class O, Oeko-Tex 100, ASHRAE, you think or come across an acronym linked with a technical aspect of a shading material, try contacting Mermet UK. Contacts now stretch not just across the UK, France and the rest of Europe, but are being established in the United States, the Far East and Australia.
